We have fun too!! Along with the national TU membership benefits, Chestnut Ridge members enjoy anannual fund-raising banquet, family picnic, Christmas party and chapter fishing outings to some of the finest streams in the region.
Membership Meetings
The chapter meets the second Wednesday of each month at Knights of Columbus in Uniontown for business, conversation, food and refresh ments.Meetings often feature guest speakers and fly tying demonstrations. The July meeting is informal and is usually held at the CRTU family picnic at the Yough Tailrace. At the December meeting, we celebrate the holiday season with our annual Christmas party.Meetings start at 7:00 pm. The Knights of Columbus phone number is 724-437-1488. Banquet
Each year the chapter hosts a fund raising banquet in Uniontown, PA. This event is our primary source of fund s to support our projects. The banquet is held on the the third Saturday in March. The banquet usually draws approximately 200 people. A variety of guest speakers have presented programs relating to trout fishing and coldwater conservation. We offer a large selection of prizes such as fly rods and reels, various fishing gear, wild life art by nationally known artists, sculptures and a great time. Everyone is welcome.
Dunbar Cleanup
On the Saturday preceding the opening day of troutseason,the chapter participates in removing trash and debris fromDunbarCreek. This project coincides with our participation in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Adopt A Highway Program
Youth Day
On or about the third Saturday in May, the chapter partners with Dunbar Sportsman's Club in holding an annual youth day. Approximately200 children participate in this outing. It is open to all children and no preregistration is required. The outing is held on Dunbar Creek below the special regualated areas. The children are premitted to use all bait in this area. At the start of the project water, the chapter has members to help any child who wishes to try fly fishing. Food and drinks are provided for all participating youth. No fee is charged.
Beaver Creek Outing
The chapter's annual outing is held at Beaver Creek in conjunction with Beaver Creek Anglers Inc. The dates are chosen from availability by the Beaver Creek stream manager. CRTU members arrive at daybreak. The day's activities include fishing for huge trout, steaks on the grill, refreshments, and an evening around the campfire telling fish stories. Most outings are held the first Friday in June. .
Chapter Picnic
Around the second week in July, the chapter has a membership-family picnic at the outflow area of the Youghtailraces. All chapter members and guests are invited. Itis a day long event which includes working on the nursery, stocking trout, fishing and swapping fish stories.
Youth Fly Fishing
Each year the chapter sponsors a youth to attend the River Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp held by PA Council of Trout Unlimited at Allenberry,PA. Any member wishing to nominate a youth 14 to 16years of age, please contact the chapter.
Trout Stocking
The chapter stocks trout the week of Memorial Day through Thanksgiving. CRTU often provides trout for local youth outings. Regular stockings are done on an as needed basis and are set by the nursery committee. Stocking Phone Chain
